EducationKenyon College - Bachelors, English Literature , University of Southern California - Masters, Teaching Secondary English/Language Arts
ExperienceMy name is Lauren, and I'm a certified English teacher with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Kenyon College in Ohio, and a Master of Arts in Teaching, with an emphasis in secondary English/Language Arts, from the University of Southern California. I've taught high school English, and also English and study skills to middle school students. I grew up in Japan as a native English-speaker, and have experience helping students become confident learning to read and speak English as a second language. I'm well-versed in different styles of teaching and learning, and understand that no one method works best for all students. I currently teach middle school and also privately tutor students. I'm devoted to English literature and language arts, and derive great pleasure in teaching and tutoring reading, grammar/mechanics, writing, college essay writing/editing, AP English language and composition, and AP English literature and composition, along with Japanese, and English as a second language. I can tutor your student in test preparation for the ISEE, SSAT, SAT, or ACT, or help them with homework support and learning more effective organizational and study skills. When I have free time, I normally spend it reading, writing, watching movies, hiking, or traveling.
